Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior official said the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
